Resumen:
The emergency of carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii constitutes a worrisome problem worldwide. Aminoglycoside therapy is generally employed to treat carbapenem-resistant strains, but the rapid selection of resistant strains rapidly follows antibiotic therapy. Short Re27-like sequences are implicated in site specific recombination processes promoting plasmid evolution, and have been associated to structures carrying OXA-58-like CHDL genes. We studied here the molecular causes of combined carbapenem- and aminoglycoside-resistances and their possible dissemination mechanisms among A. baumannii clinical strains isolated in clinical institutions of Argentina.
