Resumen:
Introduction: Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is a pregnancypathology that induces placental alterations, including fibrosis. MiR199 participates in the regulation of profibrotic processes in differenttissues. Besides, miR-199 negatively regulates LDL receptor (LDLR)and Clathrin (CLTC), genes involved in lipoprotein endocytosis. Previously, we found that a maternal diet enriched in Extra Virgin OliveOil (EVOO) reduces proinflammatory markers in term placentasfrom women with GDM. Aim: To evaluate if a diet supplemented with EVOO regulates collagen deposition and the expression of miR-199and its target genes LDLR and CLTC in term placentas from GDMwomen. Methods: Healthy (Control, C) and women with GDM, enrolled between 24-28 weeks of pregnancy, were recommended astandard diet for pregnancy. A group of women with GDM followeda diet enriched with 36 mL/day of EVOO (GDM-EVOO group). Afterdelivery, placentas were obtained (n=15 per group). Collagen deposition was evaluated by Masson’s staining; and miR-199, LDLR andCLTC expression was determined by qPCR. Results: Masson’sstaining revealed that collagen deposition was increased in the villi(17%, p
