Resumen:
The career of Biomedical Engineering, of the University Institute of the Italian Hospital of Buenos Aires, in subjects such as Introduction to Research and Development 1 promotes the training of students, applying methodologies for the development of competencies and skills necessary in their future professional performance, through integrative projects and the implementation of Project-Based Learning. In the project of the current course was proposed the improvement of the process of design and manufacture of orthoses, used in patients of the kinesiology service of the Italian Hospital of Buenos Aires, through the use of 3D printing. These orthoses are tailored to the body segment to be treated and require craftsmanship that takes a lot of time and effort to professionals.Accompanied by the teaching staff and the professionals of the Kinesiology Service, from the origin of the idea to the material concretion, the students organized in groups, went through the different stages of the project. As a result of this educational experience, an orthosis for radial nerve palsy was developed, innovative, simple to print, lightweight, easily adaptable for production on demand and in a personalized way, low cost, comfortable for the user, which facilitates the daily work of professionals. The small number of patients who used the orthosis and the uniformity of the pathologies treated, motivate the need to continue recruiting patients and expand our research work, to establish the therapeutic efficacy in the various pathologies where the use of this orthosis is possible.
