Resumen:
Biocidesareperiodicallyappliedinagriculturalactivities,reachingaquaticsystemsandactinguponthe biota.Amphipodsarewidelyusedintoxicitytestsbecauseoftheirsensitivitytoawiderangeof pollutants.Inthiswork,wereportthedifferentiallethalityofawidelyusedpesticide,endosulfan,on the amphipod Hyalellacurvispina at twolifestagesandinthreedifferentadultgroups,malesand femalesseparatedbysexandbothsexesgroupedtogether.Inaddition,oxygenconsumptionofadult groups wasdeterminedasawaytoestimatetheroleofbehavioralactivitiesandexposureto endosulfaninmetabolismshifts.TherewerenodifferencesbetweentheLC50 of juvenilesandthe adultswhentheywereseparatedbysex(p40.05). Nevertheless,theLC50 of adultswithoutsexual differentiationwassignificantlylowerthantheLC50 of juvenilesandadultsseparatedbysex(po0.05). The oxygenconsumptionratewashigherwhenadultsweregroupedwithoutsexualdifferentiationin the controlgroup.Theexposuretolowconcentrationsofendosulfancausesanincreaseinoxygen consumptioninallthetreatments.Thesexualbehaviorincreasedthemetabolismandthesensitivityto endosulfan.Infutureevaluations,adultsgroupedwithoutsexualdifferentiation,whichwerethemost sensitivegroup,shouldbeincludedinordertomimictheenvironmentalconditions.Usingonly juvenilesoradultsseparatedbysexintoxicitytestsmayinaccuratelyestimatethelethalityofbiocides, especiallyinspecieswithconstantreproductiveactivities
