Resumen:
Conducting polymers films based on pyrrole, tiophene and aniline have extensively studied in view of their potential-dependent electronic and optical characteristcs. For pyrrole and tiophene systems, there has been extensive exploration of substituent effects: the effects on electronic structure (manifested through doping potentials, band gap, conductivity and stability) can be dramatic. In the present study of o poly(o-aminophenol) (POAP) and poly(o-toluidine) (POT), we focus on the dynamics of “heavy” species, whose motions are a consequence of electron transfer. Specifically, we describe EQCM studies of ion and solvent transfers accompanying redox switching, and crystal impedance measurements that give insight into the nature of the polymer matrix within which then mobile species move.
