Resumen:
Based on a cohort of 153 patients with FTD, 14 patients with SD, 22 with PPA and 50 with behavioral variant (BvFTD) were selected. Followed by 32 controls, then matched by age, gender and educational level. A brain magnetic protocol resonance imaging (MRI) was performed to obtain a structural image in T1. a consensus by experts was made for the diagnosis of FTD, SD and PPA, a neuropsychologic evaluation was made to determine their performance in general cognition, memory, language, praxis and attention. The structural image of the brain was preprocessed; we made comparisons of patients with SD with controls more PPA and vice-versa for extracting the differences and similarities between linguistic variants. The statistical analysis was made with voxel based morphometry (VBM) by t-test and corrected with False Date Rate. Finally, correlations between VBM findings and behavioral changes were made. Results Patients with variant SD show a pattern of bilateral temporal atrophy, while the group of PPA show alteration predominantly in left regions of the prefrontal and parietal lobes compared to controls. By comparing the pattern of atrophy among these patients, it was observed that SD atrophy is predominant in the right temporal lobe and in PPA the triangular region of the left frontal lobe; behavioral changes were associated with the frontal orbital alterations. Conclusion Through the analysis technique with VBM it was possible to describe in a differential way the atrophy patterns for each linguistic FTD variant; correlations were stablished with behavioral changes.
