Resumen:
This paper describes the establishment of the National Commission of Atomic Energy (CNEA) and the Secretariat of Natural Resources and Human Environment (SRNAH) in Argentina. The two organizations were created in 1950 and 1973 under President Perón?s first and third term in office respectively. The inauguration of the CNEA and the SRNAH founded the nuclear and environmental sector in the country. This paper addresses the institutional genesis of expertise in nuclear science and environmental protection, examining the conditions and objectives that led to the creation of the two sectors. We are especially interested in examining the first investment in state knowledge in nuclear activity and environmental protection. Our argument examines the effect of politicians? reputation-building strategies on bureaucratic expertise.
