Resumen:
The paper examines the representations of the Revolución de Mayo that can be found in the discourse of Juan Manuel de Rosas’ regime. This subject has been object of ideological prejudices but few historical research. Besides, since the Revolution had become a source of legitimacy for actions and discourses, its knowledge sheds light on the public life in the Rio de la Plata in the mid-19th Century and on the role of Rosism during this period. Our analysis focuses on a) Rosist politicians’ and publicists’ interpretations, particularly their emphasis on the institutional continuity of May 1810; b) the resemblances to the interpretations elaborated by opposition figures like Alberdi and Varela; c) the utilization of the representations of the Revolution in the context of factious struggles
