Resumen:
A novel strategy to synthesize photoluminescentsilicon nanocrystals (SiNCs) from a reaction betweentetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) and trimethyl-hexadecyl-ammonium borohydride (CTABH4) in organic solvent ispresented. The formation reaction occurs spontaneously atroom temperature in homogeneous phase. The producedsilicon nanocrystals are characterized by using theirphotoluminescent properties and via HRTEM. In addition, theoretical calculations of the optical absorption spectrum ofsilicon quantum dots in vacuum with different sizes andsurface moieties were performed in order to compare withthe experimental findings. The new chemical reaction issimple and can be implemented to produce silicon nano-crystal with regular laboratory materials by performing easyand safe procedures.
