Resumen:
The objectives of this study were to determine the presence of potentially aflatoxigenics strains and the natural occurrence of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) in different qualities of food intended for adult dogs and puppies. Aspergillus flavus and A. parasiticus species were prevalent in all studied foods. However, the presence of aflatoxin B1 was found at low levels in 25% of the samples. The aflatoxicogenic species in food for dogs suggests a potential risk for the health of these animals.
