Resumen:
Sulfation of commercial kappa-carrageenan was carried out with sulfuric acid mediated by dicyclohexylcarbodiimide, using two different reagent amounts. The sulfated products were characterized and their structure was investigated by methylation analysis and 13C NMR spectroscopy. The antiviral activity of both sulfated products against herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 is reported.
