Resumen:
The study and design of extremely-flexible (X) high-altitude long-endurance (HALE) unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is currently a very active area of research. In this paper we study the dynamic behavior of a simplified concept of an X-HALE-UAV through numerical simulations. The aircraft is modeled as a collection of rigid bodies (e.g., fuselage, wings, engines and landing gears) connected rigidly and/or by flexible joints. The equations of motion for the UAV are derived by means of an energetic approach based on Lagrange equations for holonomic-constrained systems. The resulting set of equations are differential-algebraic (DAEs) of index three, which are simultaneously, interactively and numerically integrated in time domain by different integrators, such as: Runge-Kutta, Hamming, Newmark, Alpha Generalized, and Hilber-Hughes-Taylor (HHT) method, among others. In order to assess the efficiency and robustness of the simulation framework developed in this effort, we validate it by comparing the current numerical results versus solution well documented in the literature.
