AbstractThis paper proposes the development and implementation of a Quality of Life Index for Argentina´s population after a brief theoretical and methodological discussion. The index is obtained from the weighted combination of socioeconomic indicators (education, health and housing) and environmental indicators(nature-based recreational resources, socially constructed recreational resources and environmental problems). The units of analysis are the 23 provinces and the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires in the last inter-census period (2001-2010). Comparison of the scores show a strong progress in the performance ofsocio-economic indicators during the first decade of the XXI Century although inequality remains high.
