Resumen:
Given their medical and veterinary relevance, the members of the Pipiens Assemblageare a worldwide target of ecological research. In Buenos Aires, Argentina, the Thedistribution of Culex pipiens s.s. and Cx. quinquefasciatus converge in Buenos Aires,Argentina,, and where hybrids have been detected. Each member of the assemblageexhibits a distinct eco-physiological behaviour that can affect their its efficiency inpathogen transmission. This research aimed Our aim was to identify the environmentaldrivers for the spatio-temporal distribution of each member, focusing on latitudinal andurbanization gradients. AImmatures of mosquitoes were surveyed in artificial containersfound within 11 public cemeteries were surveyed for immatures of mosquitoes, whichwere raised until up to the adult stage and identified by their male genitalia. Thedistribution of each member was associated with the environment in a GeneralizedLinear Model. The variable accounting for most of the heterogeneity was latitude; Cx.quinquefasciatus was collected more frequently at northern latitudescemeteries, whereasCx. pipiens and hybrids were more likely at the southern extreme. The urbanizationgradient was also important, associated with the occurrence of Cx. quinquefasciatus andhybrids at the high and low end, respectively. Other relevant variables were cemeterytotal area, the proportion with graves and the presence of plastic flowers in thecontainers. The information presented herein provides essential baseline data forsurveillance programs and control activities.
