Resumen:
Enterocutaneous fistulae are pathological communications between the intestinal lumen and the abdominal skin. At the Tornú Hospital, we are carrying on a treatment to close these fistulae, based on a system applying vacuum and compaction (SIVACO). The objective of this article is to show the development of a model, in order to understand how this treatment works. The developed model considers the fistula as a flexible tube of a constant length and variable radius, and it has two suppositions: a) the volume flow in the fistula is conserved, b) the Reynolds number is low enough to assume a laminar regimen, which justifies the use of Poiseuille law to model the movement of the fistulous liquid. The boundary conditions are the following: a) the pressure at the end of the fistula, connected to the vacuum bomb, is set at the measured values, b) the intestinal end of the fistula is set at atmospheric pressure. The model simulates the behaviour of the fistulae under compaction at determined values of the considered parameters. Therefore, the mechanism involved in the treatment could be enlightened, and its eventual improvement achieved.
