Resumen:
The provinces ofCatamarcaand LaRiojahave approximately54% ofthe total areaplanted witholive (Olea europaea L.) trees inArgentina Thte cropprovides twofinal products:olíve oiland olivesfor canning. In this regiv,.., the price of these productsis reducedby the presence oiParlatoria oleaeCohíe, 1880.This pestcauses stainsand malformations ¡nfresh olives, and alteration ´.nthe physical, chem¡caland sensory properties ofoils obtained fromthese fruits. In the presentvvork thebio-ecologyof P.oleae Colvée was studied during two years inolivefarmssituated in Valle Central(Catamarca) and VillaMazán(LaRioja), with either inteusive (IS) or traditional (TS) management systems. Samples were collectedfortnightly in autumn-winter and weeklyinspring and summer.Parlaíoriaoleaevias present duringall samplinginbranches, leaves and fruits, showing preference for fruits.Peaksot´ population abundaneebetweenspring andsummer appeared, leading to rwogenerations per year. There was asignificantly higherabundancein plots with TS, indicating thatthe management systemwould be one ofthe factors thatdeterminethe highest abundanceof this specieson olive farms. The results showthe need to implementappropriatc control measuresfor this species. Although isnot aprimary pestof olive trees,is a potential pest and damagecan generatesignificant lossesmainlyintraditionalsystems (TS).
