Resumen:
Grid Computing, as an emerging technology, has evolved steadily for the last few years and has changed the way in which collaborations are established, and research is performed. As a consequence of its distributed nature, a Grid environment cannot be limited to a unique operating system or specific programming language. Clearly, there is a need for multi-platform initiatives that addresses the heterogeneity issues related to distributed resource utilization. In this paper, Globus Toolkit is presented as a useful tool for creating a Grid environment for sharing resources over different operating systems and computer architectures. This software was installed in three different operating systems. Non-documented errors were detected, analyzed, solved and reported. Different basic tests were run and the whole system was tuned. Sample web services were installed and run for testing purposes. Also, a Fractal Generation Program was developed as an example of a distributed application based on this architecture.
