This study presents an environmental comparison among gasoline and the gasoline-ethanol blends promoted by National Act 26.093, at the use level. As a suitable tool, the methodology known as Life-Cycle Analysis or Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA) is used. Through this work, a contribution is done within an area, which expects further development such as the environmental impact studies based on local data. From this analysis, it arises that the perception of sustainability given by biofuels versus fossil fuels is not so absolute as it seems. It strongly depends on the actions taken to diminish the environmental impact of the biofuel production chain.
