Resumen:
This paper proposes an optimization approach for the design and strategic planning of the oil palm SC in Colombia with sustainability criteria. A mixed-integer linear programming model (MILP) is proposed with the objective of determining the configuration of the SC of the oil palm such that the profitability of the network is maximized and the environmental impact is simultaneously minimized. Decisions made allow to determine the number, location and capacity of the production plants and warehouses to be installed in each region in which the country has been divided, as well as the links and transportation modes that must be established and the flows of raw materials, products and by-products. In the planning horizon and for a certain price forecast, the availability of raw material, products demand, and a policy for capacity expansions of the facilities are established. The model developed integrates the different production, storage and transportation technologies of the different products -intermediate and final- of this SC (palm fruits, crude oil and crude kernel oil, refined oils, biodiesel and bioelectricity), also including information on costs and environmental impacts associated with the different activities of the chain, with a clear regional focus.
