Free wave packet model vs semi-classical model for the energy loss distribution of light particles in plasmas

We present a free wave packet model approach to describe the interaction of positrons and electronswith an electron gas that applies to arbitrary values of densities and temperatures, covering the whole nonrelativistic range of projectile energies. We compare the results with those raising from an extension of the Peter Meyer classical stopping model for plasmas. We analyze cases of interest for fusion and astrophysical studies.
