Resumen:
Byrrhoidea is composed by thirteen families, but in this chapter will focus in three families Dryopidae, Elmidae, and Psephenidae. They are commonly in all world region, with approximately 2083 species, principally in Neotropical region. Usually these beetles occur in flowing streams, especially in the shallow fifties or rapids. The Byrrhoidea have a variable life cicle. In this chapter we present a brief outline of the ecology and systematics of Byrrhoidea, and keys for the identification of the neotropicalfauna.
