Resumen:
The term Calopterygoidea has been traditionally used torefer to a very diverse assemblage of densely veineddamselflies. Depending on the authors (e.g., Bechly, 1996;Rehn, 2003; Dumont, 2005), it refers to different concepts, including different families and genera. For example,Dumont et al. (2005) treated the Calopterygoid damselfliessensu stricto (Calopterygidae and Hetaerinidae) as thesuperfamily Calopterygoidea. The latest classificatoryscheme (Dijkstra et al., 2013) considers the superfamily ascomposed by 10 families, five of which are represented inthe Neotropical region (Amphipterygidae, Calopterygidae,Dicteriadidae, Megapodagrionidae and Polythoridae). Thissuperfamily has worldwide distribution, being composedby 111 genera and 782 species (Dijkstra et al., 2013). TheNeotropical region has 31 genera and 292 species (Garrison& von Ellenrieder, 2016), but this number is very likely toincrease. Except for Dicteriadidae, there are many undescribedspecies in the remaining Calopterygoidea families(Garrison et al., 2010).
