The Right Democracy. An Approach to the Relations between the "New Right" and Democracy in Argentina

The argentine right-wing currents have traditionally had a difficult relationship with the democratic system, even in its minimalist or procedural sense. However, after the return of democracy in 1983, the conservative and nationalist right wing forces have lost influence, facilitating the hegemony of a "new right", bound to neoliberalism. This paper explores the relations established between this neoliberal right and the democratic procedure. Using discourse analysis, we argue that the "new right" claims to support the democratic system, yet works to undermine it whenever it does not serve its policy goals.
