As a multifactorial pathology, Alzheimer’s disease (AD)exhibits marked vascular alterations that correlate withdisease progression. The immense impact of AD requiresnew and effective therapeutics. Galectins, a family ofproteins that bind to outer membrane oligosaccharides,trigger various cell responses involving immune and vascularmodulation. Galectin-1 (Gal1) may have beneficialeffects on neurological disorders. We treated PDAPPJ20(Tg) mice -an AD model- with Gal1(3 weekly i.p. injectionsof 100 ug/dose, 9 injections).
