Resumen:
Nature is an inexhaustible source of biologically bioactives. In recent years, thetendency to identify bioactive compounds with potential benefits in various health fieldshas increased exponentially, e.g., ophthalmology. Resveratrol (RSV) is a polyphenol with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiangiogenic, antimicrobial, healing, neuroprotective, and antitumoral properties. A main disadvantage is its low solubility in water and chemical instability. In this sense, large investments have been made in research to solve these problems. In this context, nanotechnology has a special importance in the biomedical and pharmacological field, triggering a revolution around its potential application as therapeutic agents. The development of a new generation of nanocarriers involves strategies to improve the physicochemical limitations of bioactive compounds, such as RSV. Even more, nanotechnology is doubling down on the use toovercome the obstacles posed by the anatomy of the eye in delivering topical or intraocular treatments. In summary, this chapter places special emphasis on the versatility of resveratrol nanocarriers, their interaction with the ocular barrier, and their considerable impact on clinical ophthalmology in the therapy of several diseases.
