Resumen:
Recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA), defined as theoccurrence of two or more consecutive miscarriages at less than22-weeks of gestation, is one of the major pregnancy disordersand affects up to 5% of couples of reproductive ages. Althoughgenetic factors, hormonal diseases, anatomical anomalies andantiphospholipid syndrome have been linked with RSA, 50%of cases still remain unexplained and generate growing interest tounveil potential involved mechanisms, particularly for those thatimply immunological pathways.Successful pregnancy requires a highly regulated immunebalance to achieve embryonic antigen tolerance. The embryo isconsidered a semi-homograft that is not rejected by the maternalimmune system in a normal pregnancy. Any disruption ofthis immune tolerance may have as a consequence pregnancycomplication including spontaneous abortion.
