Resumen:
Lago Argentino, one of the largest freshwater lakes in Argentina, hosts in its arms variouscalving glaciers originating from the South Patagonian Icefield, among them the famousPerito Moreno glacier. Information on the Holocene glacier history of this region is spatiallyand temporally fragmented. However, because of the occurrence of well preservedglaciogenic landforms and stratigraphic exposures, the Lago Argentino basin is a keylocation to refine Holocene glacial history, and thus paleoclimate of this region. No specificstudies have been done within the branches of the Lago Argentino to date.We realized the first bathymetric map for the Brazo Rico and Brazo Sur, the two southerninland arms of Lago Argentino, and acquired a series of high-resolution seismic profilesshowing the depositional architecture and facies of the moraine bodies associated with theglaciers activity during Holocene recession/stillstand phases.
