Resumen:
We present here the results of an investigation on the construction of the private securitymarkets in Argentina.From a criminological perspective, the paper asks about the place that private security has in the world of policing. From an economic sociology perspective, the paper introduces some questions about the market dynamics that characterize this area of social life. First, we provide an overview of the development and current status of private security in Argentina. Second, we describe the characteristics of the actors involved in its development. Third, we analyze the differentsecurity services and protection offered in the market. Fourth, we explore the different uses that customers make security devices. Finally, these developments are situated in a broader social, political and cultural context.
