Resumen:
During the agricultural period of 1994 - 2000, two selection cycles in asparagus population were carried out with the objective of evaluate the selection response and the heritability coefficient of productive traits in a population of pistilated and staminated plants. population of each selection cycle was planted in a randomized block design with three replications. The planting grid had a distance of 210 cm between rows, 45 cm between plants in the row and a depth of 20 cm. An increment in the mean values from the base population to the cycle II for total (107%) and marketable yield (118%) and spear number (48%) for the first harvest period were observed. The genetic gains for total and marketable yield and spear number are related to an additive gene action involved in the expression of these traíts.
