Resumen:
This article analyzes the characteristics of the lithostratigraphic units and the sedimentary cover of a particular sector of the Chubut River (Valle Inferior del Río Chubut) in Argentine Patagonia based on reflectance values obtained from multispectral images of the Sentinel-2 platform. The objective of the study is to identify the main lithostratigraphic units contributing sediments in an active transfer system of the study area through the analysis of the spectral signatures of an accumulation geoform, tributary to the Chubut River, interpreted as a fluvial-alluvial fan. The identification of sediment-contributing units is of utmost importance given that, during extreme precipitation events, large volumes of sediment are dumped into the Chubut River channel, which directly impacts the socioeconomic activities of the region. The results suggest that the fluvial – alluvial fan is composed mainly by sediments of the Grupo Sarmiento and Grupo Río Chico lithostratigraphic units, so these units would be acting, at least in the study area, as the main sediment-producing units. In turn, the performance of the different supervised classification algorithms used is discussed based on the results obtained for the study area
