Resumen:
Prevalence of hypertension related disorders isincreasing on the total population. This phenomenonseems to be connected to population ageing and hasled to an increment of chronic drug treatments. Thecost of chronic treatment in this age group will increase, given the demographic changes that are anticipated. Objective: To revise empirical articles concerningto correlation between hypertension and cognitiveimpairment published in digital databases, respondingto the purpose of collect current knowledge and identifypossible pathways for future research. Results: Thecorrelation between these two terms is summarized inthree theoretical explanations, watching: 1) cognitiveimpairment as a comorbid disorder with hypertensivediseases, 2) hypertension as a brain damage causal thatlead to cognitive impairment, and 3) cognitive impairment as an undesirable effect of antihypertensive medication. Conclusions: Results pretend to provide an overview about theimpact of hypertension on cognitive performance at differentlevels, and to formulate objectives for new investigations thatcould clarify and improve these theoretical elucidations.
