Resumen:
The membranes used in biomedical applications must meet certain requirements, such as: biocompatibility, biodegradability, must be properly integrated withsurrounding tissue, easily manufactured and must provide mechanical support to stimulate cell repair and proliferation1. Another requirement in tissueengineering is the correct choice of materials and the design of scaffold structure. Most of the materials proposed to promote the regeneration of cartilage and bone are based on biocompatible and biodegradablepolymers. An alternative to these types of polymers are those obtained from fumaric monomers, a derivative from the maleic acid, easily accessible in ourcountry due to its widely used in Argentinean petroleum industry. In this work, we presented the copolymerization of dioctyl fumarate (DOF) and N-isopropyl acrylamide (NIPAM) in order to select a suitable polymer to use asa biomaterial.
