Resumen:
Renovated exploration efforts that began in 2014 led to new findings inthe Late Triassic (Norian) Los Colorados Formation at the Parque NacionalTalampaya (La Rioja, Argentina). Herein we present four cynodont specimens foundin the uppermost third of the unit, being represented by skulls witharticulated lower jaws. The fossils are concentrated in a massive- toparallel-laminated sandy mudstone interval locally interbedded with parallel-to rippled- laminated sandstone, representing deposition in a floodplainsetting sporadically affected by sandy splays from the fluvial channels. Theyare incomplete and, although fractured, the bone seems mostly undeformed. Thenew specimens range from ~30% smaller to slightly larger than the size to thosepreviously reported Chaliminia musteloides Bonaparte, 1980 individuals, the only named cynodont from Los Colorados Fm. One of the new specimens showslarge upper canines, small upper I1 and I2 and lower i1, lower postcanines witha main central cusp flanked a mesial and distal accessory cusps, and a coronoidprocess forming a low angle with the horizontal ramus of the dentary. Otherspecimen is notable by its low skull, delicate, long and low coronoid process, and the absence of a marked step angle at the ventroposterior region of thedentary. A third specimen has very large upper and lower first incisors withthe I1 anteriorly directed, a relatively low horizontal ramus of the dentary, and the absence of a diastema between right and left upper incisors. Ourpreliminary analysis suggests that these three specimens may representpreviously unregistered forms, although from the same clade within Cynodontia(Ictedosauridae) of previously known taxa of the Formation. <!-- /* Font Definitions */@font-face{font-family:"Cambria Math";panose-1:2 4 5 3 5 4 6 3 2 4;mso-font-charset:0;mso-generic-font-family:auto;mso-font-pitch:variable;mso-font-signature:3 0 0 0 1 0;}@font-face{font-family:Calibri;panose-1:2 15 5 2 2 2 4 3 2 4;mso-font-charset:0;mso-generic-font-family:auto;mso-font-pitch:variable;mso-font-signature:-520092929 1073786111 9 0 415 0;} /* Style Definitions */p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal{mso-style-unhide:no;mso-style-qformat:yes;mso-style-parent:"";margin-top:0cm;margin-right:0cm;margin-bottom:8.0pt;margin-left:0cm;line-height:107%;mso-pagination:widow-orphan;font-size:11.0pt;font-family:Calibri;mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri;mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-fareast-font-family:Calibri;mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri;mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;mso-ansi-language:ES;mso-fareast-language:EN-US;}span.MsoCommentReference{mso-style-noshow:yes;mso-style-priority:99;mso-ansi-font-size:8.0pt;mso-bidi-font-size:8.0pt;}.MsoChpDefault{mso-style-type:export-only;mso-default-props:yes;font-size:11.0pt;mso-ansi-font-size:11.0pt;mso-bidi-font-size:11.0pt;font-family:Calibri;mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri;mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-fareast-font-family:Calibri;mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri;mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;mso-ansi-language:ES;mso-fareast-language:EN-US;}.MsoPapDefault{mso-style-type:export-only;margin-bottom:8.0pt;line-height:107%;}@page WordSection1{size:612.0pt 792.0pt;margin:70.85pt 3.0cm 70.85pt 3.0cm;mso-header-margin:36.0pt;mso-footer-margin:36.0pt;mso-paper-source:0;}div.WordSection1{page:WordSection1;}-->
