Resumen:
The photocatalytic activity of different TiO2 films for the degradation of 17--ethinylestradiol (EE2) in aqueous solution was studied using a continuous flow, planar microreactor. Pure and cerium-doped TiO2 films, prepared by the sol-gel method, were tested under simulated sunlight. Catalysts characterization included X-ray Diffraction (XRD), UV?Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The highest degradation percentage of EE2 (86%) was obtained with the TiO2 film doped with 0.3 Ce nominal atomic % (at %), at pH 8, and at a flow rate of 15 L min-1. The performances of the catalytic films were objectively assessed by means of the quantum efficiency parameter, which relates the moles of pollutant degraded per mol of photons absorbed by the catalyst. The efficiency parameter calculated for the doped film (0.3 Ce at %) was 44 % higher than that corresponding to the undoped catalyst.
