Resumen:
Lycopsis viverensis sp. nov (Metatheria, Borhyaenoidea, Borhyaenidae, Prothylacyninae) is the youngest species of the genus and one of the youngest known prothylacynines. We describe the holotype and a second, referred specimen, both from the same locality and levels: Arroyo Chasicó, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina; late Miocene (Chasicoan Stage/Age). Among other features, it differs from other known species of Lycopsis in its smaller size, shallow mandibular groove which is ventrally located, reduced paraconid and hypoconulid, shallow ectoflexus which is posterolabial to the metacone, M1 with the parastylar edge acutely shaped, and a reduced stylar shelf labial to the paracone in the M2.
