Resumen:
Pension coverage in Argentina is inequitablydistributed between different income levels, both duringworking years and during retirement. The objective of thearticle is to study the evolution of inequity in access tothe Argentinian pension system in terms of its associationwith the socio-economic status of individuals during theperiod 1994?2017. An evaluation is offered of how variablessuch as sex, age, and educational attainment influence suchinequity. It is concluded that, although the level of averagecoverage increased, inequity in access increased significantlyin the years following the 1994 reform, both among the activeand the inactive population. However, inequity in accessamong active persons did not improve substantially with thereturn to the pay-as-you-go pension system, while it wasconsiderably reduced among the inactive population. Whilethe former are found to be affected to a greater extent interms of coverage as a result of the pro-educated bias amongthe active population, the latter outcome is thought to be adirect result of the transitory plan (Pension Inclusion Plan)for pension inclusion, after which inequity was to resume itsupward course.
