Resumen:
This study was aimed to evaluate the clinical performance of the colorimetric-based methods and the MGIT 960 system in the diagnosis of DR, MDR and XDR TB during the period 2004-2008, and to describe the most prevalent genotypes of these strains in the community. New methods results were available in an average of 8 days and in good correlation with gold standards for both first and second-line drugs. Independently of the drug-resistant profile, most of the isolates were grouped in clusters and spoligotyping families; genotypes did not predict the drug-resistance patterns of the isolates. Relapse and re-infection cases as well as the presence of particular strains (MDR Beijing and RIF-S Haarlem) in the community were demonstrated by the drugresistance and genetic profiles of the clinical isolates.
