Preterm birth (PTB) is a major cause of disabilities. In developing countries disabilities are affected in part by a high neonatal mortality rate. Family studies using a well documented clinical epidemiological data base is crucial for the detection of genetic and environmental risk factors (RF). Previous studies have included heterogeneous groups with both spontaneous (S-PTD) and medically indicated (MI-PTD) preterm deliveries.Aims: To analyse a well defined dataset of socio-demographics variables, environmental and familial RF for PTB.
