Resumen:
An experiment was conducted to evaluate P and N removal efficiency of Floating Treatment Wetlands (FTWs) planted with Canna indica. Accumulation in plant tissues and sediment was also studied. Reactors without FTW were also arranged to elucidate plant role. P and N concentration studied were 5 and 10 mg L-1, respectively. TP, SRP, NO3-, and NH4+ removal efficiencies were above 85% in reactors with FTW. P and N amount increased in C. indica tissues, mainly in roots and rhizomes. Flower production was enhancing by P and N addition. P amounts in sediments of reactors with FTW decreased at the end of the experiment. The obtained results show the ability of C. indica to be used in FTWs for the removal of P and N, also providing aesthetic benefits.
