Some Remarks on Attitude, Epokhé and Reduction in Husserl

Drawing on recently published research manuscripts by Edmund Husserl, we focus first on the development of Husserl´s notion of the transcendental reduction. This leads us in turn to the issue of attitudes as habitual ways of dealing with specific kinds of objects in the world. We then discuss the specific attitude which Husserl, over against mundane attitudes, calls the transcendental attitude. After disclosing some essential features of this particular attitude, we contrast Descartes´ and Husserl´s understanding of the epokhé that is implied in the subjective turn.On this basis, finally, we essay a clarification of the sense and significance of the phenomenological reduction.
