Resumen:
Caryophyllalesare a research focus at the BGBM and the institutional commitmentincludes a position for scientific coordination. Thebiodiversity informatics side of the activities will be supported by the BGBMteam handling the EDIT Platform for Cybertaxonomy. The networkplays a key role in the research activities within the initiativefor a ? Global synthesis of species diversity in the angiospermorder Caryophyllales? (Borsch & al., 2015). Benefits of a networked andinformatics-supported approach towards building a modernmonographic synthesis are obvious. Baseline information on species willbe built up and open access in a single resource provided for easinessand efficiency. Access to character data (sequences, morphology, etc.) linked to specimens (requirement) and names will facilitateresearch. Tools are provided for the publication of regional or globaltreatments to support the interface of regional Flora writing and globaltaxonomic synthesis. In this way, the initiative will contribute to saving worktime, and to improving quality and consistence.
