Resumen:
The present study was conducted to evaluate the metabolic effects of isolated fiber ofcarrot supplementation in mature mice. Physicochemical properties of fiber weredetermined. BALB/c mice were used, the groups were as follows: mice fed a standarddiet, control group; high fiber supplementation (70mg); low fiber supplementation (35mg); for 12 weeks. Blood samples were collected at the time of sacrifice. The weightsof heart, liver, kidneys and spleen of the experimental mice with respect to body weightwere recorded. Commercial kits were used to determine serum glucose concentration, lipid profile (Cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, Triglycerides), and the two mainaminotransferases GOT/GPT. A histopathological assay was performed on the heart, liver, and spleen tissues of mice. The results of the analyses indicate that the fibercould be suitable for food supplementation. In fact, supplementation with fiber favorsweight loss and induces a decrease in glycemia in the supplemented mice. With theexception of total high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, the other lipid fractions decreasesignificantly in mice supplemented. Fiber supplementation did not induce changes inthe dissected organs of the supplemented animals. In conclusion supplementation offiber, improves glycemic control, lower plasma lipid concentrations and reduced bodyweight in normal mice.
