Resumen:
It has been observed that the iodophenol compounds impart a slight medicinal odor to water, even at los concentrations on the order of 1-500 mg L-1, and this is not desirable according to the organoleptic characteristics of the drinking water. Other researchers have shown that the halogenated phenols could be formed from the phenols and the active halogens present in the sample at pH values lower than 7.In this work, the compounds of interest are primarily 2-iodophenol, 4-iodophenol and 2,4,6-triiodophenol, which could be formed from the iodine used for recycled water disinfections. Te interest of the speciation of these iodinated compounds in drinking water is growing and recently a new approach for the analysis of iodoorganics compounds in drinking water has been developed using gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and gas chromatography with electron capture detection (GC-ECD). However, bibliographic data about the application of the coupling GC-ICP-MS to speciation studies of iodophenols species have not been found. In this work, GC-ICP-MS was applied as an efficient and sensitive technique to separate and detect the iodophenols species named above present in different types of water samples including drinking water. Also, the effect of addition of auxiliary gases to the argon plasma, and others parameters that affect the separation and detection of these species, were investigated in order to obtain the optimal analytical performance.
