Resumen:
Ameghino (1906) used the name Astegotheri idae in order to differentiate some Patagonian armadillos of the "étage Notostylopéen" (Casamayoran Age) from the Stegotheriidae (sic) of the "Colpodonéen" and "Santacrucéen" (Colhuehuapian and Santacrucian Ages respectively). This hypothesis remained unknown or even was discarded by later authors. In this contribution Ameghino's concept is adopted but using a new rank in agreement with updated classification schemes of the Dasypodidae. A new genus is recognized. The scutes of the dorsal carapace, and specially the two only known mandible remains are described.
