Resumen:
This study aimed to investigate the role of the glutamatetransporter GLT–1, found in astrocytes, in various aspects ofspatial memory, including consolidation, expression, andreconsolidation. For this, we administered dihydrokainic acid(DHK), a selective GLT-1 inhibitor, into dorsal hippocampus. We used the spatial object recognition (SOR) task applying astrong protocol that induces the formation of long-termmemory (LTM) or a weak one that only induces short-termmemory (STM). DHK was infused at different times aftertraining to study its effects on memory. We also explore thecellular mechanisms that occur under GLT-1 blockage. Ourfindings reveal that hippocampal activity-related cytoskeletalprotein (Arc) and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF)play a pivotal role in spatial memory processes, shedding light onthe intricate molecular mechanisms of memory processes, governed by the activity of both neurons and glia
