Resumen:
Older adult’s behavioral intention of preventing blood transmission of HIV is function of two components: attitudinal and normative. The research is based on a theoretical model developed by Fishbein (1980). To analyse the older’s action the following statement was chosen: “asking the nurse/dentist/doctor the next time I go to a health service about the biological safety norms used to prevent AIDS”. The instruments were administered to 200 mid-class subjects residents in Buenos Aires. Both sexes were included in the sample (40% male, 60% female) and the age of the subjects was 60 or more (x= 70,26, s= 7,57). Results showed that older adults had behavioral intentions to prevent themselves from blood transmission of HIV/AIDS. Their attitudes towards the action turned out to be favorable and their subjective norms showed social approval towards this behavior.
