Theory of reasoned action: Predicting and explaining volitional behavior towards geriatric confinement

Abstract Based on a theoretical model developed by Fishbein, it was predicted that the individual´s intentions towards the behavior of confining an old person in a geriatric home is a function of two components: attitudinal and normative. Measures of attitudes of behavior, subjective norms and behavioral intentions were carried out through a questionnaire that was administered to 170 subjects residing in Buenos Aires City (Argentina). Results revealed that probably the subjects had a behavior that avoids the geriatric confinement. Their attitudes to such behavior turned out to be unfavourable and their subjective norms showed a perception of social disapprovement towards the performance of this behavior.
