Neurocandidiasis is a pathology with considerable incidence. However, its real frequency is not completely established, mainly because the diffuse clinical symptoms, the severity of manifestations and the difficulty of its diagnosis. The fact that it occurs in an immuneprivileged site where the homeostasis maintenance is the principal rule of the game, determines a particular type of interaction between the pathogen and the host. In this article we review important aspects of this interaction focusing on how it may shape our understanding of pathogen?host interaction in this organ.
