Resumen:
AMIGA detectors are underground muon counters, designed as part of the upgrade to the Pierre Auger Observatory. Each detector is comprised of 64 segmented plastic scintillator strips, connected with their respective WLS fibers to a 64-channel photomultiplier. Its design provides the opportunity to accurately count the number of muons, which is of key importance to the upgrade. However, the counter suffers from a low number of photons arriving at the PMT photocathode. Therefore a new approach to calibrate the counting system while maintaining a high separation power between signal and noise is required. Thus maximizing the performance of the muon counter. The current work proposes a method based on a theoretical model of the multichannel photomultiplier tube, which can determine the optimal point of operation for each channel of the detector.
