Resumen:
It has been long recognised that Cr(V) intermediates are produced in the reduction of Cr(VI) by various substrates, and Cr(V) complexes have been implicated as important intermediates in Cr(VI)-induced carcinogenicities. Because of their potential biological relevance, the reduction of Cr(VI) by saccharides have been extensively studied. The most common means of characterising Cr(V) complexes in solution is EPR spectroscopy. The EPR spectral parameters, giso and Aiso values, together with the proton shf coupling, have demonstrated to be useful in determining the binding modes of carbohydrates to the Cr(V) center. In this work, we have used EPR spectroscopy to characterise the Cr(V) species formed in the reaction of Cr(VI) with D-glucuronic acid at different pH.
